Teaching little ones to be honest, help others and be good kids that follow God can be challenging. If I were to read from my King James Bible to Charlie every day, he probably wouldn’t get much from it. We do read to him from his Children’s Bible, but I love that we’re able to add in books that are focused around things he likes and still have lessons.

The new series: Building God's Kingdom teaches little ones about being kids, honesty and helping others.

The new series from Andy Holmes, Building God’s Kingdom, is about a group of friends (Dozer, Diggit, Stretch and Tipper) that happen to be construction vehicles. I know in our house, anything that goes is always a hit. Both boys love to push their cars around and will play with them for hours. We already have quite a few books about trucks and such, but none quite like these.

Each book teaches valuable life lessons to the boys through different situations they encounter in their jobs. The lessons are easy for the little ones to understand. In the first two books, you’ll learn about being kind (Diggit Saves the Day) and being honest (Tipper Tells a Lie).

Charlie has reached the age where he is starting to fib. What I really like about these is that they teach through encouragement instead of scolding. When Charlie fibs (or lies) about something, we try not to scold or yell at him, but encourage him to tell the truth and explain why it’s important to do so.

If you have little boys (or girls that like trucks and construction), this series will be a perfect addition to your library.

Another definite plus for us is that these are board books! Owen isn’t quite ready to understand the lessons in these books yet, but that doesn’t mean he won’t want to join us when reading them. Owen can help turn the pages without worry of them tearing. Honestly, Charlie isn’t always the best with regular pages yet either. He just gets so excited!

This is Charlie’s cheese face combined with the irritation that Owen invaded his picture and reading time. Welcome to my world.

  1. Oh these books sound awesome! I think for my kids it is thinking of how their actions affect others. It is so easy for kids to get caught up in what they want that they don't always realize how their actions affect others.

  3. I think we've been pretty good about instillig a lot of good values to my oldest (compassion, volunteering, loving, forgiving), but for some odd reason we are getting stuck on little white lies. I need most help with this

  5. For me I would say that the characteristic that is hardest for me to instill is putting others first, especially when my children are small. When they are young they don't care to share or don't think about how others might be less fortunate than they are. It makes it hard to convince them to give away or donate things that they have an attachment to.

  7. For me right now it is fibbing. My 5 year old is very honest but I have to admit that there are times when she likes to exaggerate. I am teaching her that exaggerating is like fibbing.
