Relay for Life

Our Relay for Life event was this past Friday into Saturday. I dropped my munchkins off with my mother-in-law and headed out to work on setting up around 1:30pm. Tom picked them up and brought them to Relay when he was done work. The actual event didn’t start until 6pm, but it takes a lot to get the whole event together. Our local paper, The Cecil Daily, covered the event a little. My mom is the chairperson, so I seem to get roped into helping more than I really have time to, but I don’t mind- it’s for a great cause. As Charlie and Owen get older, they’ll be helping Mom and Mommom out! Start ‘em out young!

Why We Relay

This is what I’ve been working on for the Luminaria Ceremony at our Relay for Life tonight!

I’m heading out the door soon and will be Relaying all night long! This is why we Relay…

Right now I’m about $50 short of my goal. If you’d like to help find a cure, you visit my Relay for Life Donation page.

Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Seeing them on a big screen brings it to another level.

Relay for Life Update

We’re two weeks out from our Relay for Life Event! It’s been fun (and crazy) getting it planned, but it will all come together. I’m on the committee this year, so seeing how it all works from the inside has been interesting and it’s always neat to help plan something so awesome!

My Relay for Life team this year, Circle of Hope, has raised about $1600 so far. We’ve done a couple bake sales, a bowling tournament, an Origami Owl party, and some other fundraisers. Something we decided to try this year is a pretty baby contest that we’re calling Pretty Little Relayer!

Pretty Little Relayer

Who doesn’t love a pretty baby contest?!? We’re hoping to get a good turn out, see bunches of cute kiddos, and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

I’ve raised a little over $200 right now, but my goal is $300. If you’d like to donate, please visit my Relay for Life Donation page.

For the Relay for Life big event, I’m currently working on a slideshow that will play during the Luminaria ceremony. People have been sending me pictures to put in the slideshow that will be in honor of or in memory of a loved one. This is something new to our local Relay for Life event and everyone is loving the idea! When it’s complete, I’ll share it here so everyone can see.

It's Kind of Fun to do the Impossible

This is the theme this year. Finding a cure for CANCER can certainly seem IMPOSSIBLE, but it's not. And we're going to have some fun while raising awareness and funding to find that CURE!

These are just a couple pictures from our Kick-off party on Saturday.

Relay for Life Kick-off

We had our kick-off event for Relay for Life today. I started Relay because of my mom, but I Relay now for my kids. My mom is a 13 year breast cancer survivor. I keep Relaying in support of her and in support of finding a cure for the future.

Some quick facts about cancer:

1,665,540: The number of new cancer cases expected to be diagnosed in 2014.

585,720: The number of Americans expected to die of cancer in 2014, about 1,600 people per day.

1 in 235: The number of children who will be diagnosed with cancer before age 20. A total of 15,780 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in children and adolescents in 2014.

For more of these facts, visit the American Cancer Society.
